The Invaluable Role of Beta Reader Feedback
Everyone loves a hearty pat on the back. 🙌🏼 I’m no exception. But feedback isn’t about having readers say “I liked it” or “It was good”. When I send out a call for beta readers, I need honest feedback, even if it means harsh truth. Especially so.
🫠 There’s no place for thin skin in this game.
I'm getting some excellent feedback on book 1 of my forthcoming Outlier series. Some are sending me how each section made them feel. Others are critiquing things like pacing and character voice and development. These help me produce a better experience for you, the reader.
It’s why I always say feel free to reply to any of my emails and share your thoughts on my writing, my newsletters, my hair, my use of emoji 🤗, anything at all.

📺 One Piece - Live Action
My sons’ friend, who knows me well, couldn’t believe my current watch. “Your dad’s watching One Piece?” he said incredulously.
Ordinarily his shock would be 💯% justified.
But DANG is it an amazing show. Just finished season 2. I don’t know the source material other than what my sons tell me, but this is an adaptation done right. Coming from a manga that became an anime, the live-action version fully embraces the lunacy of its source. 🏴☠️ And that’s perfect.
📖 Intruder by Freida McFadden
No, I didn’t start with The Housemaid. Maybe I should have. 🤷🏻♂️ I just don’t get the hype about this author. I mean, it was ok, not saying it wasn’t. But nothing says “NY Times Bestselling Author” to me. Some of the writing is a bit basic and the twists not all that shocking. Some were downright obvious.
And then there was the “characters are stupid so the plot can plot along” factor. Overall, not a bad mystery thriller, but nothing special.
