Huge news for Kindle App users on Apple devices

Epic Games v. Apple Ruling Enables Kindle Book Purchases on iPhone and iPad

On April 30, 2025, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers issued a ruling in the Epic Games v. Apple case that fundamentally changed purchases on Apple devices. The court found Apple’s restrictions anti-competitive and ordered that:

  • Apple can no longer charge a 27% commission on purchases made outside the App Store.
  • Apple cannot prevent developers from guiding users to alternative payment methods, such as external websites.

While Apple is appealing the decision, it is currently complying with the order.

What Changed for Kindle Users

  • Amazon updated the Kindle app for iOS to include a prominent new “Get Book” button next to book listings.
  • Tapping this button now opens Amazon’s mobile web store in a browser, where users can complete their purchase. Once bought, the book is synced back to the Kindle app.
  • This process is much more streamlined and user-friendly, as it allows users to start the purchase flow within the app itself, rather than having to manually navigate to Amazon’s website.

Broader Impact

  • Other major apps, like Spotify, have also begun to take advantage of the new rules, offering external payment links and subscription options.
  • The ruling is seen as a significant step toward a more open digital marketplace on iOS, benefiting both consumers and developers.

🤮 How to suck without knowing it 🙋🏻♂️ What I’m up to ✍🏼 Author resources Just write Yep, that’s the advice so many "experts" give us authors. They say it’s the best way to improve. Is it? 🧑🍳 If you suck at cooking and just keep cooking, you’ll likely improve a little. Trial & error can be a decent teacher. 🤔 But would you open a restaurant if you’re the only one who ever tasted your food and you consider it good? I think it’s true that writers improve by writing, but only so much. If no one...

But the last thing you needed was another useless email cluttering your Inbox. Heck, you may have a filter or rule shoving me into oblivion, making this note moot. C’est la vie. 📝 A note from this author 🫣 “Me” in my characters & stories 😘 Darkened Cloud launch price goes bye bye 🔓 A Personal Note: I don’t often share my personal losses and experiences. One October gave me the most unimaginable of these when my sons (12 & 13 at the time) and I lost the most amazing & loving wife and mother. We carried on and I’m proud of the men my sons have become. The thing about personal experiences, even the tragic ones, as a writer is how they shape my characters and stories....
